Biografie

Trong Gia Nguyen (geboren 1971 in Vietnam) ist ein multidisziplinär arbeitender Künstler mit Werken im Bereich Installation, Malerei, Bildhauerei, Video und Performance, webbasierten Aktionen und iPhone-Anwendungen (metaphysisches GPS). 1975 immigrierte er nach Amerika, wo er an verschiedenen Universitäten in Floridas Bildende Kunst studierte. Seine Arbeit untersucht häufig Machtstrukturen kultureller und sozio-politischer Systeme.


Immer wieder beschäftigt sich Nguyen mit der Dynamik und der Machtstruktur zwischen Objekt und Betrachter. Durch zumeist passiven Objekte und Bilder in Ausstellungen liegt die Dominanz beim Betrachter: Welche Objekte schaue ich mir an, wie lange verweile ich, möchte ich hinschauen oder nicht?

Nguyens Ziel ist es, Objekte zu schaffen, die diese Machtstruktur durchbrechen und die Balance zwischen Betrachter und Kunstobjekt wieder herstellen, indem seine Objekte eine Interaktion mit dem Betrachter einfordern:

Derzeit lebt und arbeitet er in Brooklyn, New York.
